Methods of treating body aches are simple, whether they are caused by muscle strain, arthritis, illness, or a chronic diseaseĀ  like fibromyalgia. For short-term body aches, your body just needs time to heal or recover from an illness. For chronic pain, the key is learning to manage the pain.

If the body aches are due to strenuous exercise, either do a very light workout until your muscles feel better, or do some other kind of exercise that won’t further stress those muscles until they heal. Massage can help the muscles to relax and temporarily relieve body aches. Taking a warm bath, or using a heating pad on the area most affected by the aches can also have the same effect.

Fibromyalgia is a rheumatologic disorder sometimes called fibrositis, it is six times more common in women than men. Patients with fibromyalgia typically complain of fatigue and pain in the neck, middle, and lower back, and pain in the chest wall, arms, and legs.

Fibromyalgia is caused by a lack of deep sleep. It is during stage 4 sleep that muscles recover from the prior day’s activity, and the body refreshes itself. Sleep studies show that as people with fibromyalgia enter stage 4 sleep, they become more aroused and stay in a lighter form of sleep.

Fibromyalgia pain is difficult to treat, and there are no magical prescription drugs that can cure it. Take 1,000 mg of Vitamin CĀ  2-3 times per day. Vitamin C helps to enhance the immune system, and also helps to reduce inflammation.

Antidepressants, anticonvulsants, narcolepsy drugs, pain relievers, sleep aids, all these medications work with brain chemistry to reduce pain, improve sleep, and ease anxiety or depression.

One theory as to the cause of fibromyalgia that is gaining acceptance is that a trauma or significant stressor turns on an individual’s ā€œfight-or-flightā€ response.

Fibromyalgia pain affects the skeletal muscles, ligaments, and tendons in the body. Pain can also be felt in the bursa, the sacs that surround your joints providing nutrition and lubrication needed for movement.
