Back pain is very common during pregnancy, due to the considerable anatomical changes and stress in the body. Carrying a child changes the position of your internal organs putting a huge amount of pressure on the lower spine.

The increase in body weight, the muscle relaxing effects of the hormone progesterone, and the change in your center of gravity contribute to the problem. That’s why every day as your baby grows it’s harder to get up and down of chairs and beds.

Most low back pain can get better if you stay active, avoid positions and activities that may increase or cause back pain, use ice and take nonprescription pain relievers when you need them. You may be ready for gentle strengthening exercises for your stomach, back and legs and perhaps for some stretching exercises.

Exercise may not only help decrease low back pain, but it may also help you recover faster, prevent re-injury to your back and reduce the risk of disability from back pain. The exercises to reduce low back pain are not complicated and can be done at home without any special equipment.

Skeletal muscle accounts for 40% of body weight, and about 85% of human pain complaints. The commonest muscles affected, in those seen in the pain clinic, are those in the neck, shoulder girdle, low back and hip
girdle.

Your muscles heal very differently than your bones. If you fracture a bone, as long as it is set and fixed in place properly, it will tend to heal so thoroughly that it will become stronger than it was before the fracture.

Something you may not have expected when you became pregnant was to experience pain well before your delivery date. But a certain amount of discomfort during pregnancy is normal, as the body attempts to adjust to weight increase, changes in balance and swelling in joints.

When you’re pregnant, your center of gravity changes, making every muscle in your body work differently. As your baby grows, your abdomen enlarges, creating stress on the lower back, and possibly affecting your legs as well. Foot and calf cramps, shin pain, back pain and abdominal pain are some of the usual pains associated with pregnancy.

The use of complex surgical procedures to treat back pain has exploded in the past six years, even though these operations are riskier and more expensive than simpler treatments and not necessarily more effective, a study finds.

“It was a bit of a surprise to see how big the increase was,” said Dr. Richard A. Deyo, professor of family medicine and internal medicine at the Oregon Health and Science University. Several possible explanations exist for the increase, money among them, Deyo said. “There are financial influences at play,” he said. “You get paid more for complex procedures.”

The most common type of breast pain is related to our hormones during a monthly cycle. During the second half of the cycle, the breasts swell and become more lumpy and tender. Women with large breasts may have non cyclic breast pain related primarily to the size of their breast, it is  accompanied by neck, shoulder and back pain.

The cause of non cyclic breast pain is likely to be anatomical rather than hormonal, triggered by breast cysts, breast trauma, prior breast surgery or other factors localized to the breast.
