Primary dysmenorrhea is caused by strong contractions of the uterus trigged by prostaglandins, chemicals in the body that are involved in inflammation and that stimulate pain receptors. Higher levels of prostaglandins are associated with more menstrual pain.
Secondary dysmenorrhea can be caused by endometriosis (inflammation of the lining of the uterus), blood and tissue being discharged through a narrow cervex, uterine fibroid or ovarian cyst, infections of the uterus, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and intrauterine device (IUD).

A heart attack is when blood vessels that supply blood to the heart are blocked, preventing enough oxygen from getting to the heart. The heart muscle dies or becomes permanently damaged.
Most heart attacks are caused by a blood clot that blocks one of the coronary arteries. The coronary arteries bring blood and oxygen to the heart. If the blood flow is blocked, the heart starves for oxygen and heart cells die.

Sickle cell anemia is an inherited disease, people who have the disease inherit two copies of the sickle cell gene, one from each parent. The sickle cell gene causes the body to make abnormal hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the iron-rich protein that gives blood its red color and carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.
Sickle cell disease results from mutation, or change, of certain types of hemoglobin chains in red blood cells (the beta hemoglobin chains). The changes in the building of normal hemoglobin result in the abnormal hemoglobin of sickle cell disease.

A sudden event or an acute injury can break a bone or tear a ligament. Less apparent, but more slowly developing insidious causes of wrist pain are repeated patterns of activity, which over time may cause undue strain on the wrist.

When outside forces are applied to bone it has the potential to fail. Fractures occur when bone cannot withstand those outside forces. During repeated efforts (as in running),the muscles become unable to support the skeleton during impact as the foot strikes the ground, the load is transferred to the bone.
As the loading surpasses the capacity of the bone to adapt, a fracture develops. The nerve endings that surround bones contain pain fibers and and these fibers become irritated when the bone is broken or bruised.
