Back pain is very common during pregnancy, due to the considerable anatomical changes and stress in the body. Carrying a child changes the position of your internal organs putting a huge amount of pressure on the lower spine.
The increase in body weight, the muscle relaxing effects of the hormone progesterone, and the change in your center of gravity contribute to the problem. That’s why every day as your baby grows it’s harder to get up and down of chairs and beds.

Acute back pain comes on suddenly and usually lasts from a few days to a few weeks. Back pain is called chronic if it lasts for more than three months. If your back pain is severe or doesn’t improve after three days, you should call your health care provider.
Acute pain signals that there is something wrong and motivates the person to get help. For example just because the nociception is caused by appendicitis, the person consults a doctor and undergoes surgery to get relieved.

A new study has said that back pain can be tackled effectively and that patients will be completely normal within a year.
The study involved 973 people in Sydney, who sought treatment for a new case of back pain. The researchers kept in touch through telephone interviews and found that 35% were back to normal in nine months and 42% within a year. Some 259 of the patients had chronic pain, but even they recovered in 12 months.
“Contrary to the view that recovery from an episode of chronic low back pain is unlikely, we found that an important proportion of patients recovered within one year,” write the researchers. Luciola da Menezes Costa, a graduate student at Australia’s University of Sydney was part of the team.
